No EDL on May 24th!

5 May

That’s a “One Service Sunday” here at Calvary. The service starts at 9:30am on that day!

This particular Sunday is a HUGE one for Student Ministries. Although some of our students and staff will be out of town that weekend for the Guys and Girls Retreats, the service on that morning is almost entirely focused on the students here at Calvary.

We are going to be talking about changed lives on that day, focusing on changes that have taken place at winter and summer camps. Then we will be taking a special offering that will be used for camp scholarships!

We’re planning on using students for all sorts of roles on that day. Check the student blog for a few of those details, and please encourage your kids to take part!

We will also be doing baptisms on that day, so if you or your child are ready to take that step please let us know.

Remember that you can sign up for the text-message updates right here on the blog! We know that our students have a hard time relaying our announcements to mom and dad sometimes :)

Guys and Girls RETREATS

22 Apr

Hey parents,

Here is the announcement we just posted on the student blog. Space is LIMITED for these two retreats, so please act soon!

The GUYS and GIRLS retreats are May 23-25th! That’s exactly one month from today!

Cost for the guys: $49.99

Cost for the ladies: $60

You can sign up at EDL on Sunday or Wednesday, as well as Monday thru Friday from 8 to 5 in the Student Ministries office.

The ladies are going to be camping just outside of San Diego. The extra $10.01 is so that you ladies have a bit more luxury than the fellas (bathrooms, showers, actual toilets). Video coming soon :)

The guys are headed up to the woods near Bear Mountain for some camping! Check out this video for a peak:

family meeting recap

29 Mar

We started the morning by having all of the students skootch (sp?) their chairs closer together and closer to the stage. We wanted to see everyone for this one.

What talked about what it means to be a family. There might be over 200 people in there on Sunday mornings, but we can still feel and act like a family.

Melissa talked to the students about how this year feels different than the previous few years. Some people were definitely oblivious to the differences, but there were plenty of nodding heads in the room in agreement.

We ended the morning by talking about we, collectively, are “the light of the world”. When Jesus said “You are the light of the world”, he was saying that “you” (plural) are the “light” (singular) of the world. We’re in this together. We’re not 200 different points of light. We, the church, must realize that we are all in this together. EDL has no king or queen (that doesn’t work in the Kingdom of God). We come together to worship God. To pray together. To talk about what it means to live a different kind of life.We encouraged the students to be a community of visionaries. To dream big, and to fill any gaps they see.

We got some great feedback :)
